A vehicle registration usually has two forms: a document and a decal.
The vehicle registration document
The vehicle registration document must be kept in the vehicle at all times - this is the document you would hand to a police officer if he asked for "Your license and registration, please."
The registration document:
Describes the vehicle
Lists the vehicle's owner(s)
Shows the registration's expiration date
The vehicle registration decal
Many states require drivers to display a decal on their vehicle. This decal, usually placed on the license plate, but sometimes placed in the windshield, displays the current registration's expiration, allowing law enforcement to determine whether a vehicle's registration is current at a glance.
