Yes.  You need an address to register a vehicle in the United States, for two main reasons:

  1. Your address determines your registration process. Each US state has its own vehicle registration process.  If you have a Texas address, you follow Texas' vehicle registration process; if you have a New York address, you follow New York's vehicle registration process.
  2. Registered vehicle owners need to receive mail.  Vehicle registration is handled by the US States (not the Federal Government), so each state has its own process.  Many states issue vehicle titles several days or weeks after registration, which are sent to the registered owner's address.  Several states don't issue license plates upon registration - instead, they issue temporary registration upon registration, and mail plates to the registered owner's address later.  Finally, toll authorities (such as highways and bridges) need to be able to send toll bills to vehicle owners.
