What is a vehicle registration?

A vehicle registration is a document that provides proof that a vehicle has been registered with the appropriate government authority.

It typically needs to be renewed periodically and serves as evidence that the vehicle meets the necessary requirements to be driven on public roads.

A vehicle’s registration is linked to its license plates and must be kept in the vehicle at all times.

A vehicle’s registration is not an official ownership document, and (except in certain states for certain ages of vehicle) cannot be used to transfer ownership of the vehicle to a buyer.
