In order to transfer ownership of a vehicle, you must properly assign your vehicle’s title to the buyer.

When you use visitor.us to register a vehicle for you, we will form a Montana Limited Liability Company (LLC), owned by you.  We will register your vehicle to your Montana LLC, and you will receive a Montana title for the vehicle, in the name of your LLC.

The section of the Montana title that you must complete looks like this:

In order to properly assign the title to a buyer you must have your signature notarized.

When in front of a notary public (and not before), sign in the box that says “Signature of First Owner or Agent of Owner (Transferor)” as follows:

Example LLC by John Doe, president

(Where Example LLC is the name of your Montana LLC, and John Doe is your signature)

And write in the box that says “Printed name - must be the same as signature” as follows:

Example LLC by John Doe, president

(Where Example LLC is the name of your Montana LLC, and John Doe is your name)

If the vehicle is model year 2011 or newer, the seller must write the current odometer reading.

When the notary completes the Notary Block (the fields next to the word NOTARY on the title), the title belongs to:

    a) the person whose name is written in the box that says “Print name of buyer, whether individual or business”, or

    b) if the buyer’s name is blank, the person who physically possesses the title.

Once properly assigned, this title is acceptable for registration and title transfer in any US state.

Note: As of 2023, Montana no longer requires titles of vehicles owned by Montana LLC’s to be notarized to be properly assigned.  However, Montana has not updated its titles to reflect this change.  Therefore, other states - Texas, for example - may not accept the title of a vehicle owned by a Montana LLC where the seller’s signature hasn’t been notarized.
